The Artist Behind the Spiders

For more than 25 years, Peter Szucsy, a Hungarian illustrator and designer, dedicated his career to creating sinister beasts for video games. As a highly skilled art director and artist, he crafted several bizarre monsters that run rampant through the virtual world of video games. When he felt it was time to try something different, he conceived the amazing steampunk spider sculptures.

Crafting with Vintage Materials

These sculptures are crafted from various parts of vintage watches, medical equipment, and cameras. Rather than working with vector graphics and pixels, Szucsy brought this masterpiece to life by utilizing pieces sourced from antique watches and other vintage objects.

From Flea Markets to Masterpieces

While fabricating the intricate steampunk spider sculptures, Szucsy would visit a flea market near his home in search of antiques and materials, including rare, expensive vintage timepieces. However, he ensured that he didn’t dismantle any timepieces that would be valued by an institution or museum.

A Vision Turned Reality

In an interview, Peter Szucsy stated, “I have been working as a video game artist and art director for many years. I made many monsters and creatures in the virtual world. But a few years ago, I felt it was about time that I created something different and unique. I’ve been planning to make such a spider in the real world, and now, it has come true.”
